Queen Christmas: Who will spend Christmas with the Queen this year? Will Kate and Wills?

The Queen typically spends Christmas Day with her family at Sandringham House in Norfolk. The Royal Family are invited to join her for the festive season where they indulge in many festive traditions. But who is due to spend Christmas with the Queen this year?

The Christmas season is often a tense time for many families and the Royal Family’s Christmas this year is likely to be no exception.

Many royal fans have condemned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for deciding to spend Christmas with her family this year, despite the couple spending the past two Christmases at Sandringham.

Sir Rod Stewart criticised the couple for not spending Christmas with Queen because, at 93, she may not have many left.

Rod said: “The Queen is 93. I flew round the world to be with my mum and dad at Christmas because I knew they didn’t have many left.

“I was disappointed Harry and Meghan decided not to spend Christmas with the Queen.”

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said the couple were “looking forward to extended family time.”

They added: “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

This year will be the first time in his life, except once in 2012 when he was serving in Afghanistan, that Prince Harry has missed a Sandringham Christmas.

But which royals will be in attendance?

Most of the Royal family are expected to be in attendance at Sandringham.

This will include, the Cambridges, the Yorks, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Wessexes, Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Anne and more.

However, none of these members have yet confirmed their attendance.

Speculation recently arose revealing Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William may choose to spend this year with Kate’s parents instead of at Sandringham.

Kate is extremely close to her parents, but has spent the last two years with the Royal Faily for the festive season.

The couple have previously spent two Christmases with Kate’s parents since they were married in 2012 and 2016.

Some royal commentators believe they could repeat this move this year.

Royal Central desk editor Lydia Starbuck said: “Do we know whether William and Kate are going to be there? Has that been confirmed or denied?

“They haven’t always gone, like in 2012 when Kate was expecting George.”

She added: “They spent Christmas with her mum and dad. Or when Charlotte was tiny, we had those pictures of them walking to Church together with George.

“So it’s fairly normal for the younger generation to go and spend Christmas elsewhere.”

Typically the Cambridge family spend the Christmas school holidays with their children at their country estate Anmer Hall.

Anmer Hall is a short distance from Sandringham Estate to allow them to spend Christmas with the Queen.

Each year royal fans gather in their hundreds to watch as the Royal Family walk to church on Christmas Day.

This festive walk is the highlight of royal fans’ Christmas.

But not all members of the Royal Family join for the walk to church.

Last year, Prince Philip was absent from the walk and according to the Mirror, a palace spokesperson said that Philip was in good health and was “spending the day ‘privately.’”

In response to a request for confirmation as to whether Prince William and Kate would be with the Queen this Christmas a Buckingham Palace spokesman told Express.co.uk: “We do not confirm in advance which members of the Royal Family will be with The Queen at Sandringham on Christmas Day.”
